WAM!NET Direct! IP

The WAM!NET Direct! IP Service is a subscription based content delivery service that provides customers with ability to send, receive, and track digital files transported between their Local Area Network (LAN) and authorised destinations connected to the private SAVVIS Content Exchange using their own Internet curcuit. There is no difference in functionality between the WAM!NET Direct! And WAM!NET Direct! IP (Internet Provisioned) services.

The Direct! IP service is ideal for customers that require content to be delivered directly to their LAN, but cannot justify the cost of a dedicated circuit to their premises, or such a circuit is not available, or they already have in place the required bandwidth through their Internet circuit.

Wam!Net Direct! IP requires the installation of Savvis hardware, our ‘Purple Box’, on your LAN. The WAM!NET Direct! IP service communicates with the Savvis Content Exchange by establishing an encrypted tunnel using SSH on Port 22 over your own Internet connection. The Purple Box is provided as part of the monthly service fee.

File distribution is enabled with the use of several different applications, depending on the customers needs, these are:

  • A desktop software application called WAM!NET Transmission Director X (TDX), installed on team members computers (PC or Mac) responsible for file/content distribution management.

  • Drag and drop hot folders can be created for each client, partner and/or supplier to further simplify the transferring of files/content.

  • A web browser interface known as Transmission Web Client (TWC), for implementations when installing software on team members’ computers in not possible.

As the WAM!NET Direct! IP service is VPN based, the speed is dependant on your Internet connectivity. However, Savvis maintains a high level of robustness, every package is tracked and managed. The hardware installed is monitored by Savvis Network Operations Centre 24/7 and the security level is best described as Internet banking grade or better.

Provisioning of a WAM!NET Direct! IP Service typically takes 15 business days from the time the site survey forms are submitted.

You may upgrade your Direct! IP service to a Direct! Subscription at anytime without having to serve out the initial 12 month commitment on Direct! IP.

The online WAM!NET Transport Calculator is based on the Direct! IP service and can be used to see for yourself whether or not subscribing to WAM!NET Direct! IP would assist your organisation to save costs on content distribution.
